Liberica coffee, locally known as Kapeng Barako, stands as the Philippines’ first coffee bean variety. Introduced by two Franciscan friars in Lipa, Batangas in 1740, this rare coffee found its roots with the Macasaet family, who played a crucial role in planting and propagating the Liberica seedlings. 

Since then, Lipa has experienced remarkable economic growth, becoming, at one point, the world’s largest supplier of coffee beans and eventually being named the coffee capital of the Philippines. 

To this day, Lipeños continue growing Liberica and making magical brews—perfecting their craft over the years and passing it down from one generation to the next. 

Fueled by this burning desire to preserve a rich legacy and provide people with authentic, high-quality, and healthier coffee, the Mercado Family, direct descendants of the Macasaets, established The Natural Choice. 

Now, the TNC continues with its purpose of creating the first steps towards lifestyle change through its products that promote experience, wellness, and a sense of community.
